The long-awaited ferry service between downtown Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Fort Pickens will begin on June 22, Gulf Islands National Seashore officials confirmed Wednesday. The ferry system — first envisioned more than 40 years ago — will be administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the City of Pensacola and Escambia County. Two 149-passenger ferries, named Turtle Runner and Pelican Perch by local fourth grade students, will run seasonally (March thru October) between the three stops. Each leg of the trip will last about 45 minutes and will include narration by park rangers or Pensacola Bay Cruises guides. Tickets will cost no more than $20 for an adult, all day, hop-on, hop-off ticket, but prices could be subject to change based on the needs of the ferry operator.
